Autodesk Design Review Add-in dwf plugin browser for Firefox & Google Chrome, does not support scripting or automation in the browser, since Firefox does not support COM controls unlike internet explorer. What is the effect of this? What are we missing? What is automation?

"Automation" is defined as "The condition of being automatically controlled or operated". Hence, if you lose automation in computing, it usually means that every creative task now requires laborious, manual ones, such as populating fields with data, to be done beforehand.

"COM controls" are also called "ActiveX" and are integrated with the Windows operating system. It enables Internet Explorer to actually interact with files and folders on the computer – execute files, start processes etc. This is why Firefox and Chrome version of the plugin is called "viewer". DWF files can only be viewed in them, while in the IE version they can be changed as well.
