First, you must have a qualified hardware for the CAD to run smoothly in your system. I encountered this myself especially if I open multiple software while running my AUTOCAD application. Due to the lack of RAM of my system. I suggest that you limit the software that you open when running AutoCAD.

If problems still persist. Then It might not be a hardware issue but a software issue most common with Windows XP and AutoCAD application. The ".NET Framework". I suggest you install all the latest .NET Framework.

But before doing this you must create a restore point so as to protect any further abnormality with the system after installation of latest .NET Framework. That way you can just perform system restore to you PC.

Also make sure that you have an updated Anti-virus system as viruses can cause malfunctions to memory hungry applications.

You can also try to clean your registry from time to time using CCleaner.

Here are things that you can try to do:

  1. Try to repair the program using the disk installer.
  2. Try opening it on a new user profile, this may also be caused by a corrupted user profile, if it opens then you can just transfer your documents and settings on the new profile.
  3. If all else fails, try to check for viruses in the computer this may cause some corrupted windows files.
