Hi  techyv experts,

My problem is that AutoCAD 2007 reports FATAL ERROR: Out of memory – shutting down always shows when I work with large DWG drawings. What can I do to free some memory that will help to increase the available memory.

My computer has 1gb Ram and I'm using Windows Vista with a 1.66ghz Intel processor. Is there any way to optimize my ram and improve the performance of AutoCAD? If you can help me with my problem I would be forever indebted to you.

Thanks for reading.

Hi Dorothy,

Generally ‘Out of memory ‘errors can be fixed by shutting down your computer and rebooting. If it occurs frequently when you open the drawings you will need to upgrade your system memory. AutoCAD crashes when physical memory goes down below 100 Mb and virtual system memory has no effect on it.This error are also possible due to corrupted fonts or texts that lead to major memory leakages. If you use large DWG drawings I recommend you to use the 64-bit version of AutoCAD.

You can give a try by using following software to optimize and defragment your physical Ram for more performance. Super RAM is easy, efficient software that can be used for this purpose. If you are interested in free stuff Iolo Memory Mechanic will do you the job. Try to minimize number of background programs running in start up by visiting MSCONFIG command in Run.

Hi,

Are you building complex 3D models? Or are you rendering? In both the cases, you need maximum memory that should be free. You certainly need a good amount of memory to be free. You can move to documents section since you are using the Windows Vista. Make sure You free the memory from there. Windows creates the folder in the document section and there all the built in models are stored. Backup the models from there and then delete the models being stored there. Hence, you will get the free memory size. You will then find the software to run properly.

Sometimes, we blame the AutoCAD but actually its not always an AutoCad's problem.  There are many things that caused it, so you have to remove the problems that caused it. To know more visit this Techyv page.

If your computer’s memory is only 1 GB and you are working with big DWG drawings, it is obviously not enough. The only solution to this is to upgrade your computer’s memory by adding more RAM. Here are the system requirements for Autodesk AutoCAD 2007 and review it and check your computer’s specifications.

Autodesk AutoCAD 2007 supports Windows XP (Professional, Home, or Tablet PC edition) and Windows 2000 Professional Service Pack 4. It requires Intel Pentium 4 or faster processor, 512 MB RAM, 750 MB free space, and 1024 x 768 minimum screen resolution. Since AutoCAD 2007 requires 512 MB RAM, that 1 GB memory you have is a big problem for the computer to handle.

There will be very little left for the system resources and will make the system very slow as you work with your project. You can try one workaround by adjusting the size of the virtual memory or the page file and make it bigger but still your system will be slow during the entire session.

You can follow the guide here in adjusting the size of the page file: Autodesk vault Get/Checkout gives System OutOfMemoryException.
