What is Platform as a Service (PaaS) in the context of cloud computing? How is it different from Software as a Service (SaaS)? Can Enterprise Resource Planning Modules be run on a SaaS platform? What will be the benefits of such a model? Are there any risks arising from such an approach?

Platform as a Services (PaaS) is one of the category of cloud computing which provides computing platform/environment and solution stack to deploy the services and applications. It is the way to rent the required virtualized server infrastructure over internet. Software as a Service (SaaS) is used to deliver the web applications that are being managed by the third party vendor so that client can access them through an interface. The main advantage of SaaS is the capability to eliminate the overhead of running/installing applications on each and every computer system. Google Gmail is the best example for SaaS. The Enterprise Resource Planning Modules be run on a SaaS platform. The drawbacks of SaaS are security and latency issues, internet dependency and compliance.
