The appropriate use of LinkedList and ArrayList

Hello, my name is Johnson. My friend and I are working on a project and we are currently at the verge of conducting an index search in a tall list of objects. As part of the search we seek to know if it is appropriate to use the LinkedList or we should go for the ArrayList? Per your recommendation, can you give us reasons why we have to go for the recommended one? We do ask this not to raise questions of doubt but for clear and in-depth understanding. Thank you.
