Like you, I am also using a VPN or Virtual Private Network for my internet connection. Using this alternative way to connect to the internet gives me another option to visit web sites that are normally blocked from my country. Usually, when using a VPN to connect to the internet, you have the option to select your desired server based on the available servers on your VPN connection.

This is also a great way to make your connection anonymous and will eventually hide your own IP address. The IP address that the web sites detect when you visit a site is the IP address that was set by the VPN server where you connected which is normally located from another country.

In VPN, the connection usually drops if there is no network activity detected. To avoid this, you need to open a new window that automatically pings a certain address. Constantly pinging an IP address or a domain address will make the connection active. Here’s how you can do it.

  1. Click Start then Run.
  2. Type cmd then hit Enter.
  3. When the command prompt window opens, type ping –t www.google.com then hit Enter. This command will continuously ping Google’s web site.

You can specify a different web address or IP address.

Be sure to enter the command line in small characters otherwise it will give you an error.
