I am having trouble with my Outlook Express. I get the following error messages when I use it:

  • The host 'SMTP' could not be found.
  • Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly.
  • Account: 'POP3', Server: 'SMTP'.
  • Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure (SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error.
  • Number: 0x800CCC0D.

Can you tell me how to fix the errors so it will work properly?

Hi,

The error that you have encountered denotes that you may be using an incorrect SMTP server setting that's why it showed The host 'SMTP' could not be found. SMTP is the one responsible for outgoing messages.

  • You need to check your email settings again on Outlook Express.
  • In Outlook Express, click Tools –> Accounts –> Mail Tab –> Properties –> Servers Tab –> Make sure you type in the correct Outgoing mail (SMTP) server setting.
  • SMTP server has this format smtp.xxxx.com or mx.xxxx.com or depending how the MX Records were set on your provider. You need to contact your ISP or email provider to get the correct SMTP server settings that you should use.
  • Then, Click on Advanced Tab, check and make sure the Server Port number for Outgoing mail is set to 25.
  • Then Click on Apply, then OK.
  • Quit Outlook express first to refresh all the settings and open it back. Click on Send/Receive button or you can create a test message and send it to yourself.

Hope it helps. Thank you.

Hi,

Actually the server is rejecting your connection. Or you are unable to connect to your mail server.

Solution 1:

Check all your settings first. Enter all POP and SMTP settings again. Please use settings from working system if possible or take from ISP. Copy directly from file and do not type manually.

Solution 2:

Turn off your firewall and try to send your email. If email is sent successfully then simple add outlook express in Exception.

Solution 3:

Check you SMTP port settings. May be you are using port 25 and your ISP has shifted to 587. So try by changing port number is SMTP port settings. You can take these settings from your ISP.
