A trial version of an antivirus has been already as effective as the registered version. It's just that in trial or demo version the product has a limited number of days to function and if the specified duration has already been exhausted the software will generally stop functioning and will suggest for an upgrade or a license key which means you now need to purchase a license key or a registration code for the antivirus to function again.

Their capability in detecting and removing viruses are the same. Sometimes in a registered or genuine product there is an additional component that is disabled in a trial version.

In simple words, trial versions of any software are just samples of the original product for attracting various users by letting them use the product for a specific period of time, usually within 30 days, giving them the integrity and full strength of the original version.

Trial version is working for only 30 or 60 days, after completing this time, it gets disabled, you can enable it after purchasing it.

Some antivirus gives only limited features to its trail version for life time and full features in the paid version.

Trail version meant for just an illustration for a limited time period.
