Hello,

I am running Windows 7 Operating System with Microsoft Security Essential but when I try to open my application an error message comes up “This app has been blocked for your protection”. I was running this app before without having any issue. How to resolve this problem?

User Account Control

I don’t think Microsoft Security Essentials has something to do with that error because, in the first place, User Account Control is displayed on top of the dialog box. This means UAC has blocked your program from running. UAC or User Account Control is a security feature of Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 which helps avoid unauthorized modifications to your computer.

These modifications or changes can be initiated by viruses, applications, or other users. If you trust the program you are trying to run or install, try disabling UAC first then verify if you can install the program. To disable UAC, click Start, on the search box type without quotes “control panel”, then select Control Panel from the result.

Under “User Account and Family settings”, click “Add or remove user account”. Next, select your user account. Under the user account, click “Go to the main User Account page”. Under “Make changes to your user account”, click “Change security settings”. In “Turn on User Account Control (UAC) to make your computer more secure”, uncheck or unselect “Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer”.

Click OK then reboot your computer. Once UAC has been disabled, try installing the program and see if it works. Once the program is installed, enable UAC again by following the same steps.
