I would like to know more about cloud computing. What are the disadvantages in adopting cloud computing? Is there a difference between cloud computing and regular hosting wherein a customer has paid a fixed amount of storage and bandwidth monthly?

Cloud computing will allow you to host your data to an area that allows you to pay for only that space that you use and therefore you will not need any employees to manage the data, PCs and servers as it will be the case for regular hosting. Some of disadvantages that cloud computing has are as follows:

  • Security and Privacy – this is an issue because users give out their information to be handled by a third party, and therefore it may be a compromise to a company’s sensitive information that is stored on the cloud servers.
  • There is a dependency issue, whereby there are quality problems with Cloud Service Providers, and there is no influence on the maintenance levels and fix frequency when using cloud services from a CSP.
  • Costs – The fact that cloud computing technology is new and therefore it has to be researched to be made better makes it more expensive.
