I want to add videos in Microsoft PowerPoint 2010. What are the file types that it can support? Do I need to install a certain video player? If the workstation where I will play the presentation from only came with Windows Media player, will I still be able to play it?

Hi Deangellopeter,

Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 supported videos in Adobe Flash Media (.swf), Windows Media File (.asf), Windows Video File (.avi), Movie File (.mpg or .mpeg) and Windows Media Video File (.wmv) formats.

If the Apple Quick Time Player is installed and then you will be able to play videos in the .mp4, .mov, and .qt formats in Microsoft PowerPoint 2010

As for Windows Media Player with direct codex will be able to played those stated in the above video formats. Just as for precaution and preparation, you could install another video player to your work station.
