I'm planning to add a video card on my computer that has on-board video. Where can I disable the on-board video card?

You did not mention the computer that you have neither the operating system on the system. So I would not be able to give a specific solution to you but it will be more of a generic type. You can always chose between the two graphics cards, the in-built one and the external one.

First you need to uninstall the driver of the current card. It has to be removed completely from the registry as well. If you have Windows XP operating system, then you can disable the integrated video in Control Panel then System and then System Properties. In there select the tab 'hardware' and then click device manager.

There you can click the + sign to extend the display adapters. To disable an adaptor, right click the adapter, select its properties and in that box, you have to select 'Disable' right at the bottom. I am sure it will work for you!

Dear Echua,

Click start, then select control panel, find and select “system” now when the system properties open up select the ”hardware” tab left click “device manager” then select “disable” from the panel at the top (which has a “NO” sign on a computer image) which shows “disable” when you put the mouse on it, click it

And also disable “Video Card" from the BIOS

Make sure you put the new ne video card properly, and install the driver.

Notice: some high end VIDEO card needs better power supply and an extra powerful fan to keep it cool and avoid soldering the Motherboard.

Hope that helps.
