Ad – Aware 9.6 installation error

Hi all I am using OS win xp Home Ver2002 SP3 Pent4 2.0 GHzwith 1 GB ram. I recently installed the Ad-Aware version 9.6 on my system and uninstalled the present version using Revo Uninstaller. After the installation, I restarted my system and logged in successfully but I started with the Ad-Aware 9.6 it got stuck at "Lavasoft Ad-Aware Service".

I tried my level best to make it work but all in vain. I uninstalled it again and downloaded it twice again from two different websites. Both the installations resulted in the same error. The screen shot of the error is as follows:

"Installation Error
Service 'Lavasoft AD-Aware Service'(Lavasoft
Ad-Aware Service) could not be installed. Verify that
you have sufficient privileges to install system services."

Can anyone please explain why it is happening so? I simply cannot find a solution.

Waiting for your suggestions

Regards

Warren

Hi Warren,

When uninstalling Ad-aware, make sure Ad-watch module is not running. Turn it off in your Ad-Aware settings by selecting Advanced Mode and then settings. We need to do this first as It’s hard to completely uninstall the software, having its components running.

Now we can use Revo Uninstaller (Advanced Uninstall Mode) to uninstall Ad-aware.  Click ‘Select All’ in Step 4 and ‘Delete’ when prompted and then click ‘Next’. Reboot you pc after the uninstall completes.

Before you install Ad-Aware 9.6, make sure to get rid of free firewalls like Zone Alarm, because it can be a conflict in installing advanced programs such as Ad-Aware.

Proceed with the installation of Ad-Aware 9.6.

Hope this helps.

Good Luck!

It appears the problem is related to permissions as indicated in the error message:

“Verify that you have sufficient privileges to install system services.”

When installing a program like an antivirus, make sure you have an administrator account. This type of software can’t be installed with a standard or non-administrator account. Limited user accounts can install several applications but software that makes global changes to the system like antivirus requires full administrative privileges.

If you don’t have an admin account, ask the network administrator or any user with admin account on the computer to install the program for you. Download the latest Adaware Antivirus. The latest version at the moment supports Windows 7 Service Pack 1, Windows 8.x, and Windows 10.

It requires 1.6 GHz Dual-Core or faster processor, 1 GB RAM for 32-bit and 2 GB RAM for 64-bit, and 1 GB free space.
