Hi,

I have a version which is supposed to run in Windows98.

But when I run it I get an error that says > “UNABLE TO INTIALIZE

SOUND/FX”

I tried to:

1] Create ShortCut (aodcd.exe.)

2] RightClick > Properties

3] In Target Field Add “-s” after “aodcd.exe”

But after this I got the error below.

Error message:

The name “C:UtilitiesProgramsAces of the DeepAODCMDAODCD.EXE”-s’ specified in the Target box is not valid. Make sure the path and file name are correct.

Aces of the deep error for Windows 98

Too bad but I think there is no solution to this. The error you have is usually generated if you are using a SoundBlaster Live! soundcard and I think you are using this soundcard. The complete message you should be getting is “Assert::err: line 522 in ..simwin_snd.cpp: Unable to initialize Sound/FX with a Sound Blaster Live sound card”.

This error means that the installed soundcard is not compatible with Aces of the Deep. This game is not compatible with SoundBlaster Live soundcard because of particular DOS sound incompatibilities with the program. There are no available drivers from Creative Labs that will allow the game to run with a SoundBlaster Live soundcard.

The only solution to play the game is to run it without any soundcard. So, even if you apply a “-s” switch to run the program, it’ll still not work because it’ll still detect the installed soundcard that will always throw back an error. Command: Aces of the Deep will only run on Windows 95 and Windows 98 but not in Windows 3.1 or even DOS.
