I want to know the name of the connectors that are used to connect the hard drive with the power supply of the computer. Also tell me how many bytes are available in a sector of hard disk?

There is a four pin power cable used in computer power supply to connect it from hard disk and this same cable is used in floppy drive. It is basically very old one but it is used in a rough manner.

This connector is fixed in a one way only and its shape is also like that to connect only one way. It is basically a 12 volts pin and it helps to connect hard drive with power supply of computer easily.

(FIGURE IS ATTACHED WITH THIS FILE)

These above figures are the 4 pin cables which are used to connect hard drive from computers.

  1. A basic data storage unit is called as sector.
  2. It is of pie shaped having some circles.
  3. Each sector of hard disk will store 512 bytes data
  4. There are many circles and each circle of sector stores 512 bytes of data. And whenever there are more data then it divides into the other sectors of the disk drives.

Thanks.

4-pin peripheral power connector is used to supply the power mainly for computer’s hard drive and CD drive. In addition to this, it may be used for additional motherboard power, video card power, to supply the power for fans etc.

This connector has four wires. Two black, one red and the other yellow. Each black wire is ground. Red wire carries +5Voltage and the yellow one +12 voltage.

The number of bytes hold by a sector of a hard disk drive varies. Generally, if it is older version, it uses 512 bytes or 2048 bytes. If it is a latest version, it provides the space for 4096 bytes.

The computer power supply or the power supply that runs the computer is designed to convert the AC power from the wall outlet into smaller DC voltages. These smaller DC voltages power the different components of the computer. It regulates or normalizes the voltages by quickly connecting and disconnecting the load circuit.

The majority of modern power supplies follow the ATX convention which outputs +3.3V, +5V, +12V, and -12V on a series of color coded wires. The computer power supply has the following safety features:

  • Turning on the power supply – the power supply is designed to not turn on when it is not connected to a motherboard. This safety feature is controlled by the green “power on” wire.
  • Minimum load requirement – many power supplies require a minimum load current to remain on. If this minimum load current is not present, the output voltages may vary significantly from the specified voltages or the power supply will turn itself off. In a computer, the current or the power used by the motherboard is enough to meet these requirements.
