Using photoshop Cs5 is so convenient and it's really fun to use it. I will give you two videos which will show you on how to convert 32 or 16 bit images into an 8 bit images and vice versa so that it will be easy for you to understand how to do it. Showing this tutorial in an actual form is easy to understand than showing it in a written form. See the below videos.

In Photoshop CS5 you can convert an image very easily. As you mentioned you want to convert the images in 8 bits. Â Open the image you want to convert from file then click on the Image after that Mode, now select 8 bits/channel. Save the image in an 8 bit format which is a JPG or you can save it also in a PNG file. Let me tell you saving the higher bit image as a JPG file will automatically convert the saved file to 8 bits as well.
