Hi,

While creating a backup folder with XCopyFile running on Windows 2000 I received an error message. It is showing the error code (0x80070003 – The system cannot find the file specified). I have no idea for the error and the error code. Have you any idea for the error code and the error mentioned earlier? Please help me to get a remedy.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Johnnierbailey,

You might have recently downloaded an update from Windows before you have performed the backup. Anyway, I tried to do some research and it looks like that this error message is triggered when some files become missing. You might want to fix this up first.

To be able to fix up the problem, you may want to stop first the automatic updates by going to Start > Run > type in services.msc and click OK. Right click the Automatic Updates and select Stop.

After this, you'll have to rename the Software Distribution directory by going to Start > Run > type in cmd and click OK. Type cd %windir% and click Enter. Then type in again rename SoftwareDistribution SDTemp and click Enter. Exit the command prompt by closing the window.

Start again the Automatic Updates by following the first instruction but instead of Stop, select Start.

Then go to the Windows Update website then download an update.

Once the update has been successfully done, try to do the backup folder again.

Hope this helps.
