How can you explain why Windows Server 2008 is built on a different core but Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 are built on the same one? I also would like to find out the difference between the security changes in Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2008.

My connection to the network is in my work profile and not connected to the domain. I recently installed a Windows 2008 server and I want to utilize its Network Discovery feature. I can connect to the Windows 2008 server through my computer’s IP address/name and the Windows firewall has been configured to make an exception for Network Discovery on the public and private networks. Printer sharing and file sharing are enabled so files can be moved from the server and back. Why is Network Discovery not working? What else do I need to do to get it to work?
Please help.

My server is Server 2008 R2 box which runs as KMS server as well. It has 35 clients who are using MS Office 2010. I used the customization tool to create an installer package so as to activate it through KMS. However, my clients could not activate the program. I can forcibly activate it though ospp.vbs and set the host of KMS, just that it would be nicer if my clients can automatically activate it using KMS. What do I have to do?

Our 2008 AD network runs 200 Windows 7 machines and I’m wondering, which maintenance tasks are appropriate for these machines? Disk scan, defragment, etc.?

Hi Mate,
I have a windows 2008 Domain controller and the below error is on that system.
Process ExSetupUI.exe (PID=4216). An remote procedure call (RPC) request to the Microsoft Exchange Active Directory Topology service failed with error 1753 (Error 6d9 from HrGetServersForRole). Make sure that the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service is running. In addition, make sure that the network ports that are used by RPC are not blocked by a firewall.
Thank you all

I am using the 64 bit Standard Windows Server 2008. I am facing a problem with the view of ‘Event Viewer’. When I am clicking on Event Viewer’ an error message is getting which says that ‘the event log service is not available’. I have confirmed that the service is running properly. Also when I click on start in Windows Event log it also gave me an error message which says ‘the Windows Event Log service cannot be started’. The instance name which had passed is not recognizing as valid by the ‘WMI’ data provider. Even the troubleshooting could not solve the problem.
It will be great if anybody can help me to solve this problem.

I am getting trouble with my virtual machine. My Server is Windows 2008 R2. I wonder what is taking up my hard disk time. Does anybody know how to find this thing out? I checked my Task Manager and it looks like it is only giving some to my CPU but my memory has been into some kind of process which I don’t understand. When I tried my Performance Manager, it showed me some useless graphs that I found not so useful to me. Please help me. Thank you in advance.

Hello, I have some problems with my data partition. Here are the details: I have Windows 2008 Data Center Edition which I have downloaded through the internet. It has 10TB space allocation. I have 5 partitions with 2TB spaces for each. After allocating those spaces for each partition, I wanted to apply the remaining unallocated space to my primary NTFS drive C: but I cannot do it. I got an error when I attempted to expand my volume. I have searched for online solutions but I didn’t get any trusted solution. I saw I am not alone. There are also a lot of people experiencing the same kind of problem. Please tell me what did you guys do with this?
