1. Boolean Operators:
If you are not familiar with what they are, they simply use wildcards such as “+”, “-“, “*” etc.
- +: include both terms
- Surround your query with double quotes: search for exact phrase
- – : to exclude the term on the right
- |: denotes “or” meaning either of them etc.
2. Site-specific searches:
By adding site:<domain_name1> | <domain_name2> | … and so on, you can point Google to these specific sites for giving the result. For example, if you want to search for an Iphone on Techlife website, type: Iphone site:techlife.net
3. Dictionary definition:
Simply add the keyword “define” before the term and hit enter. Voila! You get definition along with links to more websites for further information.
4. Advanced Image Searches:
Additional tools are given in Google images at the top to look for the exact type of images by applying filters of different types.
5. Cached Pages:
Google caches most of the pages, so whenever a website is down, simple search your website by adding “cache:” keyword. For example, cache:techlife.net.
6. File Types:
Google can look for exact file type as well. All you need to do is add the file type keyword. For example: “<Query> filetype:doc “ and you will get the results with Microsoft Word documents.
7. Cinema Listings:
Type “Showtimes” and hit enter. You get the complete schedule of movies at your local cinemas. Or simply add location to expand search results
8. Knowledge Graph:
This feature allows you to ask anything, and it will give you a nice interface for additional information and possible searches.
9. Search tricks:
If you want to look up music on Google: -inurl:intitle:(.mp3) “song_name”
If you want to look up a book: -inurl:intitle:(.doc|.pdf|.chm) “book_name”
If you want to look up torrent file: filetype:torrent “file_name
10. Webcam views:
Search for “inurl:view/view.shtml” and you can see lots of webcam view from around the world.
11. Location of Flights:
You can get the exact location of flights by simply entering the flight number in the search box.
12. Tricks like “Do a Barrel Roll”,
“Let it Snow”, “Gravity”, “Atari breakout” etc. are pretty well known.
